Five Months

Sophie was five months old yesterday. The time is going so fast, and I am trying to keep her a little baby as long as possible! She is kind of a little runt, at least compared to her siblings. She can roll from her back to her front, but not front to back, so she gets mad when she is stuck on her tummy. It happens several time a night these days....I know it's a phase that ends, but I'm ready for her to get some better sleep (okay, and I'm ready for me to get some better sleep). Her other milestone this month is loosing her hair--all except the mohawk tuft on top and the little neck line mullet in the back. She has to wear a roller and get a good curl because otherwise she looks like she has a comb-over. She is so cute, and we all love her to death!

Hanging out in the crib with her new leg warmers (never mind the cold feet). She really is not a giant--just a bad picture angle.

Where Do the Days Go?

I can't believe I've been out of school for almost a month. I'm already panicked that school will be starting again before I've done any of the things I planned for the summer. I feel like I haven't done anything, but when I look at the pictures from the last month, I can see what I've been doing. I have a lot of new posts. There isn't even enough room for them all on this first page, so keep going back if you want to see them all. No one but maybe Bupa and Mimi really care to see that many pictures, but I do this for them and other far-away family, so look at what you want to and ignore the rest. I also just realized I don't have any pictures of Sophie to post. She is truly a third child, but she is a sweetheart, and first thing tomorrow I am going to take some pictures of that dear little girl and post them! Enjoy--or not.

The Day Has Finally Come

If I could tell you how many times during a morning hair fight that I have threatened Anna with a haircut, you would not believe it. Saturday night she came to bed with gum, and I went into an elaborate and exaggerated tale of how it would all end up in a short hair cut. She said, "We can cut my hair. Can we do it tomorrow?" Tomorrow was Sunday, and Randy doesn't work on Monday, but I can promise you I was at his chair first thing Tuesday begging for any slot in the next few days--before Anna changed her mind. Well, we made it. Here is the new Anna. We are both very happy!

The Garden's Giving

You've got to love the alliteration in all my titles--only an English teacher, right? These strawberries are the latest excitement in the yard. Anna and Thys go out to pick the ones that are ripe every day. Yesterday they got a bunch! I even got a few.

A Big Boy Bed

We've finally done it. No, we haven't taken away the pacifier--just got a bed for Thys. He is very happy with it, but we are having some interesting nights. Last night Mel got up because Anna was hollering, and checked on Thys. He couldn't find him. He remembered that I had said I thought I heard a door opening at about midnight, and he seriously panicked. He says he has never felt so sick in all his life. After searching the house, he finally went back to his room and could hear breathing, so he started looking around and found Thys UNDER the bed, against the wall sound asleep. He came and got me to show me. Thank goodness he had already found him before he got me--smart husband. As far as the pacificer goes, well, that will be gone someday too. As soon as I get Sophie to take a bottle, to eat solids, to sleep through the night, and get Thys potty trained. Ahhhhh. The joys of motherhood.

The Wizard of Oz

This year Anna's ballet show was The Wizard of Oz. She was a pig who sat in the pen on the farm before the tornado. Dorothy falls into the pen after she walks on the rail, if you remember, so these little piggies danced with Dorothy. The sat on stage from when the curtain opened until they got blown away in the tornado. It was soooo cute--but I am a mother.

It is really hard to get a good picture because of the lighting, but here is Anna and her class sitting in their pen on stage.

Rain, Rain, Rain, and More Rain

Summer vacation started a few weeks ago along with days and days of rain. I really don't mind the rain--in fact, I prefer it to the heat that is on it's way now. The only problem is that Anna suddenly was paranoid about the storms, and every time someone went out during a storm, she went crazy. She was certain they weren't going to be okay. So how we got her out to play in the rain I'm not sure, but one night we looked out the kitchen window into the park, which is a storm drain as well. There was a HUGE "pool" as Thys called it, and he wanted to go "swimming." So off they went in their rain boots. They got a little more than their boots wet, but they had a great time. Nothing better than a summer storm.

Cupcake Catastrophe

So we've been to a bunch of wedding and farewells lately--thanks to the every-growing number of past student body officers. Anyway, at these various events, cupcakes have been the lastest and greatest--as you know. I thought to myself, "How hard can it be to make cute little cupcakes? I can do that." Well, after an ENTIRE Saturday of baking, here's what I ended up with. And by the way, it can be hard.
This is the only cupcake that would even come close to appearing at an event!
These were the decent ones. The chocolate ones were the least tasty, but looked the best. The lemon ones looked okay and tasted good.
The carrot cake ones????? Really tasty, but oh so terrible looking. These did not make it to Sunday birthday dinner at Grandma's, but they did get eaten!

The Rubber Ducky Chorus

Becky never ceases to amaze us. She is a great lady, and we are so grateful to have her with our kids every day. This was the spring program for this year--Thys's first and Anna's last. Anna, Thys, and Becky take their singing very seriously! Thys never took his eyes off Becky, and he was a little scared, but he lasted the whole program. Anna never took her eyes off Becky either, but she was making sure she did everything just right and sang every word!

A Day Out With Thomas

Anna and I did Thomas a few years ago with all the cousins, but Thys was just a baby. We couldn't let Thys miss out on the "BIG" Thomas, so we all went again. It was worth the ridiculously priced tickets for a 20 minute ride just to see Thysie's excitement. That little guy really enjoys life. We took Sophie, so hopefully that was her turn too, and we can be done with this particular venue!
