Random Shots From Here and There

This girl--she loved her froggy hat, the legos, and the plug until she decided she was a "big girl" and didn't need it anymore.
We  (I use that loosely--I am not building the school :)  are building a new Olympus High.  I went on a tour in February or so, and it was so exciting to see what was happening  We were only able to really see the commons area at that point, but later in the spring they held an open house, and by then all the stairs were in and the classrooms framed.  It is an amazing building.  I can't wait!
A bit muddy on the site in February. . .
Yes, it's true.  My husband is an American, and he has the belt buckle to prove it. (Eek!)  Just so you know, he has added a Captain America belt buckle to the collection--only Mel.

My SBO's were given tickets to the Olympic Anniversary Event at Energy Solutions Arena, but they decided not to go.  It involved a Stars on Ice show, so I took their tickets and invited my parents to come along with Anna and me.  It was a fun night!
Anna touring the new school with me.
This is the commons area of the building.  This is the "grand" staircase that goes up to the second floor.  The library is to the left at the top of the stairs.  Behind me is a wall of windows framing an amazing view of Mt. Olympus.  So cool!

So, we are at the grocery store the other day.  We usually all go to the store on Saturday morning.  Mel takes the kids and looks at the toys and then does produce.  I do the rest of the shopping and meet him in produce.  So this is what I see when I arrive in produce:  Sophie lounging on the mini lawn chair/recliner that Mel is going to buy her as she rides in the cart.  Need I say that this little girl has her daddy wrapped around her finger?

Oh, yeah.  Anna has been to see Grandpa.  We've got a serious over jet and some tongue thrust going on.  Maybe because she had a pacifier until she was four?  Likely.  This new accessory is for her to wear at night to prevent her upper jaw from growing as fast as the lower.  Hopefully some day that gap will close. . .most likely with a lot of help from Grandpa!

Mr. T's First Tooth

On June 5, 2012, Thys lost his first tooth.  It was slightly traumatic, but he had already experienced the fear about three weeks earlier when he bumped it and it first got loose.  He was beside himself with fear.  Then a few days before he actually lost it, he tired to bite a Lego apart, and it got really loose.  That was super traumatic as well.  By the time it actually came out, he handled it better than we expected.  When he found out money was involved, then everything was a little bit better.  He is trying to save up for a Wii game.  We love this kid, and I can't believe he is already old enough to lose teeth.  I look at this tall, thin, clever boy and wonder where my little boy went.

Thys and Sophie's Program: We're Going to the Zoo

Thys and Sophie's program was on Anna's birthday--again.  She was a good sport about it.  The theme was "Going to the Zoo."  It was so adorable.  They all came into the program in their animal costumes on the "zoo train."  T was an alligator/croc and Sophie was a giraffe.

Sophie is the giraffe 3rd from the left end on the front.  T's face is just peeking out behind Sophie to the right.
The zoo train.

This is a way bad picture, but I had to put it in to show Thys singing.  He knew every word of every song, and he sang them beautifully.  I loved it!
One of the songs they learned was "Let's Go Fly a Kite" from Mary Poppins.  So of course, Becky figured out how they could fly kites in the church!  We love that Becky!

May: The Month of Anna

May was a busy month for our 2nd grader:  2nd grade program, science fair, birthday, field trips, talent show.  She was a busy girl, and so were we!  Here are the highlights!

 2nd grade program

Anna at the science fair.  She (WE) did a project testing whether bees liked sugar water or plain water better.  She got the highest award for her project.  Way to go Anna!

 The gifts!

Cake after dinner at Training Table.
"Real" birthday cake for they party.  Designed very well by Anna, made not-so-well by mom.
For Anna's party we had a carnival.  It was sooo fun.  We had about 6-8 booths, and the kids won tickets.  We had  a BUNCH of prizes they could buy with their tickets at the end.  Our neighbors/babysitter has this great board for the Sponge Toss.  It was a it with the kids.  I thought this party would be easy because I had done a carnival for the youth at church, but I spent  A LOT of time on this little event.  Anything for my kids!!

We had the traditional pinata at Grandma and Grandpa's with the cousins.

Anna's class fieldtrip to Red Butte Gardens.  I was already done with school, so I got to go with her class.  This is Anna and her best little friend on the bus.

While Mel Was Away. . .

We had spring break while Mel was in Holland.  I only had my cell cam, so pictures aren't great, but here they are!

We spent a day or two at Grandma and Grandpa's.  We went to the Monte L. Bean Museum at BYU.  Lots of crazy animals, and Thys and Soph were not entirely convinced that they were "stuffed."

We went down to see the new City Creek Center.  I was interested in the shops, the kids were interested in the playland.  You can see who won!  At the end of the night, we were hanging out by the fountains, and the kids went in, even though I told them not to.  Thys was standing in the very center of the fountain--in a dry spot while the fountains were spraying around him--when a kid pushed him into the water.  He was drenched and very cold and unhappy, so that was the end of the trip downtown.

One of our new favorite events is the Baby Animal Days at This is the Place.  We were there ALL day.  Anna would have brought this little lamb home if there had been any possible way.  She even got to feed it a bottle.
Crafting--T obviously was having an issue with something!
We ironed, washed, played with the teddy bear climbers (background), chased the hoop, tried the stilts. . .

Easter weekend--colored eggs, egg hunt at Opa Ray's and Oma BJ's, egg hunt at Grandma and Grandpa's (no pics, I guess).

A little Cafe Rio makes for an easy dinner--and inexpensive when the kids quesadillas are free!
